CDR has a Critical Need for Case Worker Volunteers
Disaster Case Management assist clients to access their individual and community resources in order to adjust to their new normal after a disaster. Disaster Case Management is a time-limited process. A Case Manager partners with disaster affected individuals or families to achieve realistic recovery goals. Disaster Case Management involves:
- Screening (normally conducted in the client’s home)
- Comprehensive Assessment
- Recovery Planning
- Action and Advocacy
- Monitoring Progress
- Closure
The responsibilities of a Case Manager are:
- Attend a formal two day training program
- Develop a resource list of inter-agency contacts and have a working understanding of the programs available
- Assist the client in a long-range recovery plan
- Help the client develop a plan of action
- Assess unmet recovery needs with the client
- Keep a written narrative of the work done on the case
- Present Case to Long Term Recovery (LTR) group
- Communicate back to the survivor the assistance available
- Make necessary referrals to fill gaps in assistance
- Verify the results of the assistance provided in order to close the case
